Return & Reverse Flow Enhancement
Improved RTO visibility and corrected Reverse trip sequencing across trip types.
Version: 1.0
Owner: Product Team
Summary
This enhancement updates the RTO and Reverse flow to ensure shipment visibility, trip sequencing, and next stop align with the actual return movement.
For RTO shipments, once a shipment is marked as RTO after a failed delivery attempt and return to the hub, it will no longer move to First Mile. Instead, the shipment will follow the appropriate return leg based on its next operational movement, and after reaching the relevant hub, it will become visible under Last Mile for further trip creation toward the seller hub.
For Reverse shipments, the trip sequence has been corrected to follow First Mile → Mid Mile (if applicable) → Last Mile, so the shipment movement from customer pickup to seller hub is reflected through the correct trip types.
This enhancement improves trip-type accuracy, next-stop visibility, and operational clarity for return movements.
How it works
Return to Origin (RTO)
Previously, once a shipment was marked as RTO after a failed delivery attempt and return to the hub, the shipment followed the earlier next trip leg logic, due to which it became visible under First Mile or Mid Mile (if applicable).
With this enhancement, the next trip leg logic for such RTO shipments has been corrected. Once marked as RTO, the shipment will now follow the appropriate return movement and, after completing the required inter-hub leg where applicable, it will become visible under Last Mile for trip creation toward the seller hub.
Previous flow:
First Mile → Last Mile attempt (Customer rejects) → Arrived at Hub → Marked as RTO → Followed earlier next trip leg logic → Visible in First Mile
Enhanced flow:
First Mile → Last Mile attempt (Customer rejects) → Arrived at Hub → Marked as RTO → Follows corrected next trip leg logic → Moves through the appropriate return leg → Visible in Last Mile for movement toward seller hub
Reverse
Previously, Reverse shipments followed the trip sequence from Last Mile for customer pickup, then Mid Mile if applicable, and then First Mile to the seller hub.
With this enhancement, Reverse shipments will now follow the corrected trip sequence starting with First Mile for customer pickup, followed by Mid Mile where applicable, and then Last Mile to the seller hub.
Previous flow:
Last Mile to pick from customer → Mid Mile (if applicable) → First Mile to seller hub
Enhanced flow:
First Mile to pick from customer → Mid Mile (if applicable) → Last Mile to seller hub
Technical Details
- With this enhancement, once marked as RTO, the shipment now follows the corrected return movement logic based on the appropriate next operational leg.
- Where inter-hub return movement is required, the shipment will first proceed through the applicable return leg before becoming available for the final movement toward the seller hub.
- After the required return movement is completed, the shipment becomes visible under Last Mile for trip creation toward the seller hub.
- Updated the Reverse shipment flow to follow the corrected trip sequence of First Mile → Mid Mile (if applicable) → Last Mile.
- This enhancement improves trip-type visibility accuracy, next-leg alignment, and operational clarity for return movements.
